"This illustration from the July 2, 1887 issue of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper reads: "Welcome to the land of freedom -- an ocean steamer passing the statue of liberty: scene on the steerage deck." For many immigrants who sailed to Ellis Island after 1886, the Statue of Liberty represented their introduction to the American continent, and all it entailed"

I decided to post this picture because it reminds me of how lucky we are to be here. So many people from different countries wanted to come to the "land of opportunity". America was the place to be back then, and still is. Many people are still coming to the U.S. today because there are so many opportunities to succeed here, and they believe that their dreams can really come true. The picture shows the immigrants watching the Statue of Liberty coming closer to the boat. I can only imagine the excitement in their eyes and the look on their face as they wait to put one foot on the soil of America. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of America itselt. It's what everyone looks for, other than the flag and the eagle, to represent that America is within your grasp.
