I chose this picture because I wanted to find a picture that would represent what other countries view America as. Even though this picture is just a body builder with a Eagles head and an American flag speed-o I think there is a lot of symbolism here. I think the big muscles symbolize power, but the fact that they are unnecessarily large says arrogance to me. The name of this picture is the Global Bully. I think this picture could say to certain countries that America is the bully trying to police the globe. Other countries that are our allies could view this as that's there friend who will protect them. The muscles could also show that America has the power to help and take care of all the problems. This picture is made up of two of America's most defining symbols, the bald eagle, and American flag. When we were looking at this picture in class someone pointed out that it could be taken as deformities of our symbols. Like the whole eagle and whole American flag symbolizes what we were and this new picture symbolizes what we became. We could say that we changed so much that all that's left of us is a little speed-o and the head of the eagle. Now we are turning into some power hungry creature. We could view the unnecessarily large muscles as us being power hungry. Then again we could view it as safety. Like the America is a super hero that can save the world. In reality this picture is just a body builder with an eagles head and an American flag speed-o on. Symbols like the Bald Eagle and the American flag are what give pictures like this power and make them speak to people. They speak to different people in different ways but what the picture says to you could depend on your feeling about America.
