Slight hangup on my paper idea.
I was going to write about Bay Area Literacy program (Rose's article) and Bay Area Writing project (Delpit) but I realized are not the same thing, oops. I saw "Bay Area" in both articles and assumed they were talking about the same thing, I think i'll see if i can still connect those two pieces in some similar way. Guess its good I caught that this morning at least.

Ryan,
are you sure they are not the same thing? or at least connected? How did you determine the two projects are not connected? Really, I'm curious. Is there any other way to think about the connections between the two pieces? For example, in Delpit's article, she discusses some of the problems with the issue of "fluency" as a principle of teachingl. By contrast, Rose argues that one of the problems of literacy is that reading tests (for example) "reveal how well people can perform certain kinds of school activities. The activities themselves may be of questionable value, but they are interwoven with instruction and assessment, and entrance to many jobs is determined by them" (126). Do you see any connections with the issues raised by Delpit?
