More Than Just a Shrine

In Gordon's description of Immigrants comming to United States it seemed like a struggle. I was amazed when it talked about how those who could not get into the US would kill themselves. The essay not only gave me a better appreciation for being a citizen in the United States but it also made you feel bad for all of those who had to immigrate. Sometimes its really sad when you hear the someone was a doctor, or a lawyer in their country but then when they get to the US there "nothing" they have to get all there degrees again. Also I thought we were all once immigrants right? So why is there such a prejudice against those who are only doing to same thing our anncessetors once did?
